Christmas

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag a man's big behind all around the world in one night and not get lost.

The Australian Christmas

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Sweating his fat away
Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Water-skis on his sleigh
Never have a white Christmas
When you in Melbourne live
Wearing hot pants on the beach
When you your presents give

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Sweating his fat away
Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Water-skis on his sleigh

Chestnuts roasting on the sidewalk
Castles in the sand
Eating ice-cream, having good talks
Warm Christmas, isn't that grand?

Amused Me

Handle every stressful
situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it
or hump it.
P*** on it and walk away.

It's December so here is a Christmas Poem

A Puppy’s Christmas
It’s the day before Christmas
And all through the house
The puppies are squeaking
An old rubber mouse.
The wreath which had merrily
Hung on the door
Is scattered in pieces
All over the floor.
The stockings that hung
In a neat little row
Now boast a hole in
Each one of the toes.
The tree was subjected
To bright-eyed whims,
And now, although splendid,
It’s missing some limbs.
I catch them and hold them.
“Be good”, I insist.
They lick me, then run off
To see what they’ve missed.
And now as I watch them
The thought comes to me,
That their’s is the spirit
That Christmas should be.
Should children and puppies
Yet show us the way,
And teach us the joy
That should come with this day?
Could they bring the message
That’s written above,
And tell us that, most of all
Christmas is love.

Nearly Christmas!

Where has this month gone? I haven't posted since the beginning of November and it feels like yesterday. Thanks to the blogger admins at VU I have discovered other social pages to join and spend more time on (not at work of course.) :)
Who can believe it's nearly Christmas and look where I am working, the heart of town. Anyone checked out Myer's Christmas windows yet? Might have a look soon and post some photos. Can't get into the Christmas spirit yet until December...oh yeah that's next week. Better check my lists and finish my Christmas shopping.

TAGGED!!!

I've been tagged! (panic stations who do I tag in return...think for a while, put this off for a week, well here goes).
Tagged by Nita the Kentish Lass who has shared 6 things about herself.

The Guidelines are:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write 6 random things about yourself.
4. Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Ok here goes..6 things about me.

I regularly shop in charity stores to buy other peoples knick-knacks and books.

I'm addicted to collecting stationery...pretty notepads and pens (which I have have from all over the world).

Butterflies - obsessed with them. Even decorated my igoogle page with them.

Love the internet - explore it everyday.

All things pink or purple....ok I'm a girlie girl.

Sudoku - love the puzzles, regularly send in competition entries and have won $50 twice.

Thank goodness that's over.

Here's 6 VU Library Staff I have chosen to tag!

Absolutely no obligation to these 6 hardworking women though.☺

Happily Ever After

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'

The girl said, 'NO!'

And the girl lived happily ever after.

She went shopping, dancing, drank whole bottles of wine, chatted for hours on the phone to friends, always had a clean house, watched chick flicks without feeling guilty, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't get fat, didn't have to pay for dual view tv, travelled more, had a career, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had all the hot water to herself. She went to the theatre, never watched sports, owned every remote control in the house, never wore friggin lacy lingerie that went up her a***, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, and felt and looked fabulous all the time!

THE END
♥No offense to those happily married girls...☺

My Crafts

Thought I'd share one of my hobbies, x-stitching.
Here is an old shot of some Christmas ornaments I sold at craft markets, many of which went to tourists or family members sending them as presents over to England. (I must get a digital camera and take some clear photos)

Final Task: Feedback "My 23 Things"

I'm not a librarian so there will be no literary masterpiece here. I am kooky and creative though so I have rewritten a classic song. "My Favourite Things" from The Sound Of Music.
Come on Karaoke queens at Werribee Campus (EW and PI), sing along now.

"My 23 Things"

Gadgets and widgets and links to Delicious,
Subscriptions to Websites and your pet on the Wiki,
Jazzing and primping your iGoogle page,
These are a few of my 23 Things.

Communicating with Meebo is cool,
MySpace and Facebook and Book Search all rule,
You Tube and Podcasting will make you all sing,
These are a few of my 23 Things.

Documents on Reader keep you busy for hours,
Image Generator does give you the power,
Googling pictures to make your blog 'bling'
These are a few of my 23 Things.

Look at Google Maps, Tag your postings,
Create something on Flickr
A simply add more pink things on my blog,
So I can earn a GOLD STARRRRRRRR.

Books, books and more books

If you like Library Thing, you might like Shelfari.com
It operates pretty much the same way, but comes with a bookshelf to show off all books. I have so many more I could add, could be work in progress for some time yet.

Task 22: Communication

Not really sure of this one, I like to talk to my friends or pick up the phone. Typing is like texting....you can't see or hear expressions. Suppose it's good for contacting loved ones far away and I'm glad to know about it for if I need it in the future. I know someone who talks via web cam with Skype to keep in touch with their grandchildren who are far away, so it has a purpose for some.

Library 2.0

Lot of information to absorb there, but great to see Libraries keeping up with the latest technology. Making info and resources simple to find, to help both library staff and their patrons. Whether writing a thesis or simply needing info for something enjoyable.

Delicious

Well this is an interesting little tool. Wish I'd known about it a few months ago before buying a new home computer. It would have save me a lot of time writing down all my bookmarks. I'm still playing with this concept and trying to work out the tag thing for preexisting bookmarks.

Podcast

Listened to some stuff, watched some stuff and was glad there is an off button. Waste of time, if anyone has found anything interesting let me know. I'm reading a good book and don't feel like listening to drivel.

MySpace and Facebook

MySpace is a bit like entering a teenager's bedroom or maybe peering through the window as I felt like a peeping Tom. A bit loud, full of strangers and strange concepts. There is whole new language to learn if you want to venture there, I felt old. Facebook, I explored through my niece's page. Don't really want to put myself out there. My friends know where to find me and if any past acquaintances don't, it's probably because I like it that way.

Task 15: Google book search

Now you're talking, didn't know this existed. Love finding new books by favourite authors or new authors in similar genre. Not sure if I'll need Google scholar anytime soon, but a handy tool for those who do. "Now back to reading...."

Task 14: Google Docs

My answer sheets from Googlesmart session are in there, somehow I transferred them from my Gmail and didn't know it. After watching the introductory video I am a little wiser about docs but at this stage will probably not use it much.

The Modern Day Fairytale

Once upon a time in a land far away,a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess
happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.
The frog hopped onto the princess' lap and said: "Elegant lady, I was once a handsome prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me. One kiss from you however, and I will turn back into the dapper, young prince that I am and then, my sweet, we can marry and set up housekeeping in your castle with my mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children, and forever feel grateful and happy doing so."
That night, as the princess dined sumptuously on lightly sauteed frogs' legs seasoned in a white wine and onion cream sauce, she chuckled and thought to herself:
I don't f***in think so.

Tasks 9,10 and 11.

Have set up Reader, OMG TMI. Have whittled down to a couple of subscriptions that interest me plus a blog or two. Have created my blog list and added some that I am following. Will I have time to read everything though? Or rather do I really care about some of this drivel that comes through. Isn't the delete button a great tool? Digg hmmmm only ever been a word on my screen before and had no idea what it was, sort of do now. I am glad I have learned how to use all this info though.

Part 2: since learning about this have had feedback from messages and learned about some related subjects that interest me and enjoy having them send their info direct to my computer.

Google Maps

I like visiting google maps. Even better now that people can review and add photos.
In keeping with the theme of my blog: 2388 Ballan Rd Anakie Vic is Fairy Park.
A theme park where you can find your inner child or just take your own kids and have a nice day out.
Go to fairypark and have a look for yourself.

Other Blogs

So many to choose from and what to look at next. I like the many ideas people have come up with and the diversity of pictures to look at. I have left a few comments here and there and hope people take the time to visit me too. I wonder how many staff VU Library has and how many haven't joined up yet.

Once Upon A Time....

Once upon a time there was a Library Shelving Goddess. Her books were her loyal subjects that were happy to be put in their correct place, kept tidy and mostly dust free.
Unfortunately this (royal pain in the....er) goddess is about to be vaporized into cyberspace. Will her loyal subjects revolt and be constantly on search or will they bow to their new keeper.
Will the goddess become mere mortal or find a new throne....sorry there is no Happy Ever After just unanswered questions...stay tuned.
